Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

How does it work?

Anti-Wrinkle treatment involves the injection of muscle relaxant into muscles around the affected area. It works by reversibly weakening the muscles of the facial skin. Once the muscles are weakened, their pull is relaxed and the skin flattens out. Wrinkles are removed naturally.

For about 20 years much higher doses of Muscle Relaxant have been used safely and effectively to treat neuromuscular disorders. Its use has been extended to removing crows feet, forehead lines and especially frown lines. More recently it has been used to treat smoker’s lines, marionette lines, nasal flares, bunny lines and neck bands, and can also be used to produce a chemical brow lift. Muscle Relaxant has also been documented as being helpful for people who suffer migraine headaches.

The use of Muscle Relaxant for Hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) is highly effective. Muscle Relaxant can also be used in conjunction with Dermal Fillers. Muscle Relaxant works best in patients aged 30-60.

What can I expect during and after treatment?

Muscle Relaxant needs to be prepared fresh as it has a shelf life of only 1 day. The injection causes local stinging for about 30 seconds, after which it is completely painless. Occasionally there may be some bruising or swelling.

Following treatment, patients are encouraged to exercise the muscles that have been injected for 3-4 hours. You must not touch or massage the treated area for 12 hours, as this will encourage the toxin to spread to other areas and produce unwanted side effects. Muscle Relaxant takes 3-10 days to take effect.

How long does it last?

Flattening of the wrinkles will last 3-4 months. When the toxin starts to wear off, you will notice a return of your wrinkles, although frequently they are not as deep. At that time, you may have another injection. With each successive treatment, a longer duration of action can be expected as the muscles become weaker.

Are there any complications?

Complications are rare but can occur. Apart from a little bruising and swelling, the most common problem is a partial upper eyelid or eyebrow droop. This occurs in 0.5% of patients treated for frown lines by experienced doctors. It lasts about 3 weeks. When areas around the mouth are treated, your mouth or smile may be distorted.
